Biological Resonance.
Biological Resonance is a performance and installation that I developed in 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Christian Losert. The work was shown at the University of Music Trossingen and at Museum Art.Plus in Donaueschingen.
The piece is based on the observation that my relationship to my houseplants often mirrors my own emotional state: when I am doing well, I take better care of them, when I am not, this care becomes less consistent. Over a period of six months, I collected personal diary entries documenting these emotional states and daily routines.
These written texts are analyzed by an AI system (ChatGPT), which assigns a numerical value representing the emotional state on a scale from 1 to 10. This value directly controls an Arduino-based system that regulates light and water supply for a plant.
In parallel, the system generates rhythmic and sonic responses based on the incoming data, which I use as compositional material. Different ranges of the scale correspond to different sonic behaviors and musical structures.
For the sound component, I developed a set of compositional responses to these states. These were performed live by Gabriel Engelen (trumpet), Gian-Andri Cuonz (cello), and Janick Scholl (percussion), who interacted with the system-generated output during the performance.
In the installation version shown at Museum Art.Plus, visitors could enter text into an interface, which was processed by the same AI-based evaluation system and directly influenced both the plant environment and the sonic behavior of the installation.
The project combines concept, composition, and technical implementation using Max/MSP, AI-based text analysis, Arduino, and sensor-based control systems.
